GoodReads Account Update

I initially started out this blog using my personal GoodReads account to track LFL #8424’s incoming and outgoing books, but it’s really started to clog up my personal account more than I ever expected. So today, I’ve created a separate GoodReads account to track the library’s books.

Having a separate account also allows everyone to directly follow/friend the library to get updates as they happen rather than relying on following my personal account or being forced to periodically check the individual incoming/outgoing bookshelves. If you’ve bookmarked the shelves, be sure to update them.

Mystery and Thriller Take Over for Halloween

As a result of a huge cache of mysteries and thrillers donated by our neighbor Denise recently, we’ve decided to do a Little Free Library “take over” for books in these genres.

For the week of Halloween from 10/25-11/1 we’ve replaced all the books on the upper shelves with mystery and thriller novels. There’s lots of John Grisham, Dan Brown, David Baldacci, Gillian Flynn, James Patterson, Brad Thor, Dean Koontz, J.K. Rowling, P.D. James, and many others. In all it totals to more than 38 new books in the library today! In fact, it was so many books, we’ve had to make some room on our lower shelf to fit them all in.

After the week is over, we’ll go back to a more balanced selection of fiction and nonfiction that we’ve always had, though we’ll surely keep what’s left and rotate it through the library in the near future.

Come and get them while they’re hot!

Here’s a good chance to pick up some good material not only to read for yourself, but to donate to your local neighborhood Little Free Library.

New Fiction and Children’s Books

Many of the new book donations from our 2 month anniversary extravaganza are disappearing, but that doesn’t mean that readers aren’t leaving some interesting new books behind. Since yesterday, there have been a few interesting donations including:

We’ve also had some additional mysteries and thrillers donated (in addition to those from Denise recently) for our upcoming Little Free Library “take-over”.  For the week of Halloween from 10/25-11/1 we’ll replace all the books on the upper shelves with mystery and thriller novels.

This past weekend, we’ve received a bunch of new children’s easy reader chapter books including:

As always, our updated list of available books can be found on our GoodReads shelf.

A Massive Cache of Mystery & Thriller Books Courtesy of Denise Frost

Just after our two month anniversary, neighbor Denise Frost was kind enough to donate a huge pile of mystery and thrillers to our Little Free Library. Thanks Denise!!!

Because the library is full to the brim at the moment, we’re going to hold off on releasing them for a few days.  Perhaps we’ll wait a week or two and do a Mystery/Thriller Take-Over where we replace all of our current books for those of just this particular genre for a week?! Maybe in honor of the week of Halloween? If you’ve got a mystery/thriller to donate, feel free to drop it off for our planned take-over.

If anyone is a major fan of one of the titles in the mystery cache and just can’t wait, then repost this page (or retweet/re-share on Facebook) and let us know in the comments which book you have to have and we’ll hold on to it for you.

Thanks again Denise! This is awesome!

Two Month Anniversary Book Extravaganza

Friday, October 9th is the two month anniversary of Little Free Library #8424!

In honor of the day, we released 39 new books into the library covering a variety of genres. This makes it easily the largest one-time release of books including our grand opening two months ago.  There were literally so many new books they almost didn’t all fit in to our tiny space.

We’ve kept a large number of the children’s books while still adding a few more.  We’ve also kept a small handful of very popular books that have been in and out of the library several times since it opened. Otherwise, almost everything in the library is new as of this afternoon. We’ll try to keep our new listings up to date over the next couple of days (a few have already found new homes this afternoon.)

We hope you get the chance to stop by this weekend to see what’s new.  Be sure to drop a note or a review into our Guest Book when you visit.

Huge New Selection

In honor of our two month anniversary, we’ve just put 39 all new books into our Little Free Library!

I’ll have more details to post in just a bit, but it’s taken so long to pack them all in, I don’t have time just now…

Get ready for a whole new library selection!

Stockpiling

For the last week, we’ve been stockpiling a few donations along with a large cache of other acquisitions in anticipation of a major release of new books to the library.

Sometime in the coming week or so (our 2 month anniversary perhaps?), we’ll be removing some of the books that have been sitting stagnant and replace them with a whole new selection of books.  With over 30 new books, it will represent the largest one-time batch of new books since our grand opening on August 9th.

Now’s your chance to borrow that great piece of fiction you’ve been eyeing before it takes a vacation from our library to visit another nearby Little Free Library.

For those who’ve been plowing through borrowed books, now’s also the time to finish up your last read to swap it for something new. Feel free to write a quick review into our guestbook to let others know what a good book it was.

Do you have any books to add to the collection?

We welcome donations at any time. But if you want to be part of the upcoming major release, feel free to leave your donation in our mailbox (or if you have several and they won’t fit, leave them on our landing in one of the plastic bags to protect them from the weather.)

Celebrating the Freedom to Read: Banned Books Week

In honor of Banned Books Week (Sept. 27- Oct. 3, 2015) we’ve got a small handful of bookmarks courtesy of the Los Angeles Public Library, which is also celebrating this week.

Bookmark sticker

Among previously banned books, we’ve currently got Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath and J.K. Rowlings’ Harry Potter (#4). If you’ve got any banned books you’re not currently using, we’re happy to host them here to share them with your neighbors.

What’s your favorite banned book?
