Over 50 new books in stock!

Some of the books in our library have been there for well over a month and haven’t been moving. So to keep things new and fresh through the holiday season, we’ve replaced almost everything in the box with more than 50 new donations we’ve gotten in the last few weeks!

We’ve also recently added some interior lights in the top portion of the library so you can more easily browse when the sun has set earlier in the evening. The lights are usually on until about 11:30 PM or so for those late evening strolls.

So when the nights are cold and you need something to snuggle up with by the fireplace, feel free to stop by, leave a book, and take a book!

A “Little” Library Renovation

With the Central Branch of the Glendale Library closed for renovations, we thought we’d spiff things up a little bit too. (Fortunately, we only needed to close for a minute to do our upgrade.) Thanks, in great part to local donors, today we’ve replaced ALL of the books in the library with over 42 great new titles!

This batch includes:

  • 11 brand new, never before read books
  • 2 books written by a famous local author
  • Fiction
  • Thrillers & mystery
  • A great spread of non-fiction (from medicine and sleep to history and archaeology)
  • Our 4th copy of Wild by Cheryl Strayed (the most popular donation in the last year, but they always disappear as quickly too…)
  • Our 3rd copy of the popular Like Water for Elephants
  • An awesome selection of pulp fiction
  • A tie yesterday(?) for #8 on our list of records for Largest Single One-Time Donations

Be sure to stop by today and resupply your night table.

Donations?

Do you have some books you’re done reading and want to share with your neighbors? We gladly accept your donated books – it’s part of what keeps the library a vital part of the community. Simply place your book donation directly into the library. Not enough space or need more information on donating? Maybe your question is answered here. Otherwise ask below in the comments, and we’ll do our best to help.

Social Media

We try to make it easy to read our posts and get the latest information about the library and what’s going on recently. You can always find the blog or follow us on most of the major social media platforms to get the latest updates. Don’t forget to take a #selfie with the library when you stop by and tag it #LFL8424 on your favorite platform.

Take a book, leave a book.

A New Donation of 12 Terrifically Diverse Books

An anonymous donor has dropped off 12 of the most interesting and diverse books this morning! Non-fiction fans will be particularly pleased.

Since there’s not much space in the library due to our new batch last week, we’ll start putting them out early next week as space becomes available. Thank You kind patron!

A Whole New Selection

Things were getting stagnant in the late Spring, so with the official start of Summer we’ve broken out about 30 new books for your reading pleasure. Thanks again to all our regular patrons, and particularly our donors for allowing us to regularly offer new material!

Stop by and see what’s new at the Adams Hill Little Free Library!

Major Donation = Great New Selection of Books

This morning we were pleasantly and overwhelmingly surprised by a visit from first time patron and neighbor Kelly Buller. She left a huge donation of a variety of 26 books spanning fiction, biography, and several other areas of non-fiction. Her donation was so large that it equals the number of books we received on our opening day. What a wealth of riches!

Thank you Kelly!

Needless to say we’re turning over all of our current stock so that there is a lot of new material to choose from. We’re also including a donation of three Mario Puzo works from J. Fernandez (a City of Glendale employee, Water Department) on January 27th — the small one and two book donations comprise the vast majority of the books that flow through the library.

Whether you’re a donor big or small, I know everyone in the neighborhood appreciates your help!

Two Month Anniversary Book Extravaganza

Friday, October 9th is the two month anniversary of Little Free Library #8424!

In honor of the day, we released 39 new books into the library covering a variety of genres. This makes it easily the largest one-time release of books including our grand opening two months ago.  There were literally so many new books they almost didn’t all fit in to our tiny space.

We’ve kept a large number of the children’s books while still adding a few more.  We’ve also kept a small handful of very popular books that have been in and out of the library several times since it opened. Otherwise, almost everything in the library is new as of this afternoon. We’ll try to keep our new listings up to date over the next couple of days (a few have already found new homes this afternoon.)

We hope you get the chance to stop by this weekend to see what’s new.  Be sure to drop a note or a review into our Guest Book when you visit.

Get ready for a whole new library selection!

Stockpiling

For the last week, we’ve been stockpiling a few donations along with a large cache of other acquisitions in anticipation of a major release of new books to the library.

Sometime in the coming week or so (our 2 month anniversary perhaps?), we’ll be removing some of the books that have been sitting stagnant and replace them with a whole new selection of books.  With over 30 new books, it will represent the largest one-time batch of new books since our grand opening on August 9th.

Now’s your chance to borrow that great piece of fiction you’ve been eyeing before it takes a vacation from our library to visit another nearby Little Free Library.

For those who’ve been plowing through borrowed books, now’s also the time to finish up your last read to swap it for something new. Feel free to write a quick review into our guestbook to let others know what a good book it was.

Do you have any books to add to the collection?

We welcome donations at any time. But if you want to be part of the upcoming major release, feel free to leave your donation in our mailbox (or if you have several and they won’t fit, leave them on our landing in one of the plastic bags to protect them from the weather.)

Mystery Books

Some Great New Fiction

Since Sunday we’ve had some choice books show up in the library:

  • The Rosie Effect: A Novel by Graeme Simsion
This is a great comedy follow up to his first novel The Rosie Project (though one needn’t have read the first to appreciate the second). It’s a romantic comedy of sorts, but one which men are as likely to enjoy as women.  Sony Pictures is currently developing the first book into a film, and this sequel is sure to follow. Bill Gates named its predecessor as one of his favorite pieces of fiction in 2014.
  • In the Unlikely Event by Judy Blume
This has been on bestseller lists since it came out earlier this summer. Why wait in line for a copy at the library when you can walk down the street and pick it up now? Thanks Lucy for donating your copy!
  • The Sweet Potato Queens’ Book of Love by Jill Connor Browne
  • Growing Strong Daughters: Encouraging Girls to Become All They’re Meant to Be by Lisa Graham McMinn

New Non-Fiction Arrived This Morning

Someone apparently knows my taste in non-fiction. An anonymous donor has brought us copies of:
